The Lakes Before Turbines Act would prevent developers from taking advantage of tax credits if they build offshore wind farms.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy has reintroduced a bill in Congress, aiming to prevent the construction of wind turbines on the Great Lakes.

The bill, which is called the Lakes Before Turbines Act, would prohibit developers from taking advantage of tax credits if they build offshore wind farms. Langworthy said wind farms are so expensive to build that developers would be deterred without those added benefits.

Langworthy said some Western New York communities have opposed wind turbines, citing cost and environmental concerns.
