Whittier Elementary installs solar panels for eco-friendly power

Whittier Elementary installed 340 solar panels, offsetting 53% of its power usage.

BOISE, Idaho — Whittier Elementary School in Boise completed a new solar energy system just in time for the beginning of the school year. 

The school installed 340 solar panels, which they said will help offset 53% of the building’s power usage. Those panels are expected to pay for themselves in twelve years, according to the Boise School District. 

The system also provides “real-time data access” to students and staff, according to a press release. This means teachers can use the system to teach real-life clean energy skills, as well as math and science.
