You have to hand it to retail giant Walmart (WMT). Despite the fact that it has already pared down its ordering ahead of Christmas, it still expects blockbuster sales. In fact, a Reuters report noted, Walmart is looking for some of the best numbers of the 21st century. Investors were not so sure, and Walmart shares were down fractionally in the closing minutes of Monday’s trading.

But the numbers are there, at least as far as shares go. Walmart shares are on track for the best gains seen since 1999, thanks to the current economic conditions. With customers pivoting to Walmart instead of more expensive options, that is putting Walmart in an excellent position as the value provider.
Walmart shares are up around 60% for the year, the report noted, which is blowing away the S*P 500 Consumer Staples sector. By comparison, that whole field has delivered just 13%. The last time Walmart saw results…
