After receiving federal and state-level approvals, US Wind’s request to build a new substation in Dagsboro for its offshore wind project was denied by Sussex County Council.
During the council’s Tuesday, Dec. 17 meeting, council members denied the conditional use permit requested by Renewable Redevelopment LLC, a subsidiary of US Wind, to use the parcel of land adjacent to the Indian River Power Plant as a site for a new electrical substation.
The conditional use permit was denied by a vote of 4-1 and marks the first major stop presented to the offshore wind project that has been the subject of much controversy in the region.
Although US Wind remains steadfast in its course, it is unclear how this vote will impact the project’s plans and timeline.
