The TSX is flat at midday, on mixed sectors.
Healthcare is the biggest gainer, up 4%, led by strong gains in cannabis stocks, on media reports that US regulators will soon reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug. Canopy Growth WEED is up 27% and the third most actively traded. Other gainers are energy (+0.5%) and industrials (+0.4%).
Telecoms, down 0.7%, is the biggest decliner.
Oil prices rose early on Monday as Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian refineries while China reported better than expected economic data.
Gold prices rose as the dollar and treasury yields were steady ahead of this week’s meeting of the Federal Reserve’s policy committee.
