People care about the environment. This is good. In fact, this is great. The problem is that they care a lot, and when people care a lot, the issues become very appealing to those who want to use them for power and politics. The unfortunate part about power and politics is that once you attach yourself to something it becomes very difficult to publicly change your view. The fear is that you look weak, like you never understood, or are letting down those who supported you on that promise/topic. In contrast to this, a sign of intelligence is the ability to change your mind; I’m not sure why this has changed in politics, but unfortunately, that is another article. The problem is that when passion combines with rigidness, it can be extremely dangerous for a complicated and ever-connected cause, such as reducing global emissions. It has gotten to the point where progress on emissions is now being stalled by other environmentalists.
