EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA has started rolling out version 12.5 of its full self-driving (FSD) driver assistance software to select drivers but it doesn’t allow drivers to wear sunglasses still.
What Happened: While the newly rolled-out version is yet to allow users to wear sunglasses or enable complete hands-off driving on highways, those features will be deployed in future versions of the software, a senior Tesla executive confirmed on X.
“End-to-end on the highway is coming in follow-up 12.5.x releases. So is driver monitoring support for sun glasses,” Ashok Elluswamy wrote. Elluswamy is Tesla’s Director of Autopilot software.
FSD currently does not work well with sunglasses as its attention monitoring system tracks eye movements to ensure users are paying attention to the road and are ready to take over as required.
