Strata Clean Energy has officially broken ground on its new battery energy storage facility, named Justice Energy Storage, located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The event was attended by representatives from Strata, Arizona Public Service (APS), and various local stakeholders. The project will have a capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) and be able to store up to 600 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity. Once completed, the facility will provide four hours of battery storage—enough to supply electricity to around 24,000 homes.
Justice Energy Storage is expected to be operational by April 2026. It will support the state’s grid by storing excess solar and other renewable energy generated during the day and delivering that power in the evening when electricity demand typically peaks.
