Solar project in Otsego County won’t use state land

GAYLORD — The company behind the proposed solar panel project in Otsego County’s Hayes Township said it won’t be using land from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

“The project footprint does not contain any state-owned land,” said a statement from RWE Clean Energy, a unit of German energy company RWE AG. “It is being developed on private property we are leasing from two private landowners. We started working with the two private landowners in 2019, and during the development process, we conducted outreach to all landowners adjacent to the project location, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Ultimately, we decided to move forward with leasing property from the two private landowners for this particular project.”
