PG&E plans to shut off power to thousands in North Bay during critical fire weather

Over 4,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers in Sonoma and Napa counties are at risk of having their power turned off as early as Thursday night due to critical fire weather conditions, more than double the number of local shutoffs originally slated, according to the utility’s latest update.

On Thursday morning, PG&E announced that shutoffs were “required” in some spots and expanded the number of customers who could be without power sometime between Thursday and Saturday.

The utility could turn off power beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The areas affected include eastern Sonoma County, with some spots just east of Rohnert Park; Santa Rosa; Cloverdale; and Sonoma.

In Napa County, almost every part of the area outside of the valleys and east of Lake Berryessa are potential areas for shutoffs.

More than 20,000 customers across 24 counties could see their power temporarily turned off over the next few days.
