Northeast Portland homeless village now powered by solar panels

Solar panels now power Dignity Village in Northeast Portland, plus 100 low-income homes nearby. It’s a product of the Portland Clean Energy Fund.

PORTLAND, Ore. — This week, the power went on for the first time ever inside a tiny home village in Northeast Portland for people exiting homelessness — all a product of solar power.

Dignity Village off Northeast Sunderland Avenue was the city’s first and only village run by the people who stay there. Lisa Larson has lived there for 14 years.

“It’s just a really unique place to live, and I’ve been part of the governance here for almost the whole time we’ve lived here,” said Larson.
