‘Mock’ town hall helped us bond (letter to the editor)

I agree with you on many points you suggest in today’s editorial about a town hall w Rep. Malliotakis, However, on the worth of perhaps “mock” ones, I disagree.

Sunday, (March 16), we attended one in front of her office on Victory Boulevard. No one expected her or her staff to show up, and they didn’t. However, I needed that experience of bonding with other Staten Islanders who are unhappy with our current administration.

We often feel helpless, alone at home, but I felt encouraged on Sunday — to feel our joint peaceful power (no ranting or raving happened), and to be able to enunciate it publicly.

This is what democracy looks like, for real.

It was very encouraging as well to have so many drivers on Victory Blvd honk their horns, wave, and call their support to us. I never realized so many neighbors felt the same way I did.

Local candidates for office were there — and it is important to support them, as you say. We need to…
