If you’ve been job hunting for a while, you might be noticing a bit of a trend: it’s getting more difficult to get a new job. That’s because according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), job vacancies have actually declined for the 27th consecutive period.

That means more people are competing for the same jobs, and as a result it is getting tougher and tougher to get hired.

If you are finding that it’s difficult to get a new job or move up within the field you work in, one solution could be to pivot into a new career where talented workers are in demand. Sometimes this requires re-training or a drop in salary, but for others, their transferable skills are enough to enable them to make a move.
