Lane County Bi-Mart stores launch year-long battery recycling pilot program | Local

EUGENE, Ore. – Thanks in part to grant funding from Lane County, Bi-Mart stores in the area have launched a new year-long program that will provide a convenient way to recycle single-use batteries, according to county officials.

The county said that recycling boxes will be set up inside Lane County’s Bi-Mart stores and aims to re-train the public on properly identifying and responsibly managing newer types of batteries and is funded through a $6,000 grant provided by Lane County. Maya Buelow, a Lane County waste reduction specialist, said that a lot of batteries contain metals that are vital for lithium-ion battery production.
