Dutch Design Week 2024 saw the unveiling of a renewably sourced, green-powered mini-house that was recycled out of a discarded wind turbine part, and it’s a perfect example of what micro-homes are meant to be. The structure was designed and executed by Superuse Studios, an architecture, sustainability, and design house, and Vattenfall, which is an energy and utilities company. Not only is the tiny home perfectly functional, but it’s 100% solar-powered and portable as well.
20-Year old turbine nacelle converted into fully functional home
The top part of a Vestas V80 wind turbine where the engine is housed, which is called a “nacelle,” is what Vattenfall and Superuse used as the base of their micro-home. The disused part was originaly fixed to a two-decade-old wind turbine that went out of operation in Austria, showing that unlikely industrial materials have vast potential for repurposing.
