Hydro-Québec has approved eight wind farm projects for a total of 1,550 megawatts, it announced Friday.
The eight submissions come from five different promoters. The average cost of supply anticipated in the winning bids is 7.8 cents per kilowatt-hour, not including transportation and balancing.

The cost is higher than the 6.1 cents per kWh for projects selected in March 2023. The current economic context means costs are increasing, said a spokesperson for Hydro-Québec, Maxence Huard-Lefebvre.

“Indeed, several economic parameters have evolved since our previous calls for tenders, including in particular the cost of capital, construction costs and pressure on the supply chain,” he said.
Electricity deliveries must begin between Dec. 1, 2027, and Dec. 1, 2029. Hydro-Québec launched its call for tenders on March 31, 2023.
