Hardly a week goes by without further bemoaning about the ongoing demise of the UK equity market.
The number of listed companies shrinks on a near-monthly basis as more companies switch to a listing in New York or succumb to the allure of ownership by private equity firms. IPOs are near extinct.
Innumerable reviews have been undertaken seeking ways to revive the UK stock market. Industry working parties, large conferences of practitioners, which I have attended, have all sought to address how to lure companies back to the UK, or increase the attractions of staying, but nothing has stopped the rot.
