After the 1% gain on Tuesday, the FTSE 100 added 0.2%, or 16 points, to 7,764 as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported the economy grew 0.2% in January following a fall into a technical recession with two consecutive quarters of contraction at the end of 2023.
‘Gains in retail trade and construction offset weakness in TV and film production, lawyers and pharmaceuticals,’ said Victoria Scholar, head of investment at Interactive Investor.
