Frankfurt stocks close lower: Dax falls back below 20,000 points

Date:

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – On the second trading day of the new year, the Dax slipped back below 20,000 points. After the German leading index had closed just above this much-heeded mark on Thursday after the New Year, investor sentiment deteriorated on Friday.

The Dax lost 0.59 percent to 19,906.08 points. For the shortened trading week due to the holidays, this results in a discount of 0.39 percent. The MDax with the medium-sized German stocks lost 0.85 percent on Friday to 25,500.40 points.

“The Dax continues to look in vain for convinced buyers who will push the index back above the 20,000 mark,” wrote expert Jochen Stanzl of the trading house CMC Markets. The imminent inauguration of Donald Trump as US president on January 20 will put investors’ resolve to the test./la/he
