Frankfurt stock market closing: DAX little changed on big expiry day

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – After a strong recovery the previous day, the DAX ended the week virtually unchanged. On Friday, the leading German index fell 0.15 percent to 23,639.41 points. The DAX was unable to maintain initial gains of up to 0.5 percent toward the round mark of 23,800 points and the 21-day average line as an indicator of the short-term trend. On a weekly basis, this represents a loss of just under 0.3 percent. The MDAX index of medium-sized companies lost 0.90 percent on Friday to 30,195.88 points.

The so-called “big expiry” of stock and index options on the futures exchanges caused moderate movements. On the four expiry days of the year, stock prices and indices can fluctuate noticeably without any significant news.
