FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – Blue chips on the German stock market mostly declined on a quiet trading day on Whit Monday. Second- and third-tier stocks, on the other hand, recorded stable to positive performance. The DAX closed down 0.54 percent at 24,174.32 points, moving slightly away from its record high. On Thursday, it had reached a high of 24,479 points and an annual gain of almost 23 percent. The MDAX closed 0.01 percent lower at 30,871.79 points at the start of the week.
Investors were cautious about the new trade talks between China and the US, which began in London on Monday. Both countries want to use these talks to find a solution to their bitter trade dispute. US President Donald Trump’s economic advisor expects a quick breakthrough. “I expect it to be a short meeting with a strong handshake,” Kevin Hassett told CNBC.
