Frankfurt shares close: Global IT problems increase downward pressure

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – At the end of a weak week so far, the German stock market has come under increased pressure. On Friday, global IT problems were added to the ongoing economic and political risks. “Market participants currently find themselves in an increasingly uncertain overall market environment,” said financial market expert Andreas Lipkow. Both the danger of a noticeable economic slowdown and the political risks had increased again.

The Dax closed near its low for the day, down 1.00 percent at 18,171.93 points. The weekly loss thus amounted to a good three percent. The MDax mid-cap index fell by 0.95% to 25,343.43 points on Friday.

Investors are currently looking towards the USA with concern. Former President Donald Trump was able to move back into the White House following the election in November. The Republican is seen as an advocate of protectionist measures to protect his own economy.
