Fire crews investigating blaze in Coorparoo, possibility ignited by an e-scooter lithium-ion battery

Fire investigators are working to establish the cause of a blaze that damaged a Brisbane home overnight, which a witness said may have been sparked by an e-scooter battery.

Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) crews remained on the scene of the house fire in Coorparoo into the early hours of this morning.

Camp Hill station officer Eric Bell said crews were still investigating the cause of the blaze but there was a possibility it was caused by a lithium-ion battery.

“There is a lot of incidents at the moment due to lithium batteries — people need to be conscious [and] take precautions when charging,” he said.

“The call was about 6:30pm last night [and the fire] was still burning, I believe, four hours later due to the fuel source in the building.”

He advised anyone who owns these kinds of batteries “not to leave them inside the house” if possible.
