Evergy power projections rise in latest report to KCC

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Evergy says its projections for available power over the next 20 years have increased.

The energy provider filed its triennial Integrated Resource Plan with the Kansas Corporation Commission Friday.

The report indicates Evergy will add 5,100 megawatts of energy in Kansas over the next 20 years. That’s a 1,900 megawatt increase from last year’s projections, which the company attributes to economic growth in its service area. One megawatt is enough to power a few hundred homes, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Council. The additions start this year, with 143 megawatts obtained through natural gas.

“In Kansas and Missouri, economic development was the biggest driver of change to our short- and long-term generation plans.
