EV Power Electronics: Examining Market and Technology Developments from 2025 Onwards : IDTechEx Webinar

Date:

In 2025, global battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales have slowed down more than expected. However, developments in powertrain technology, such as the batteries, motors, and power electronics, have continued to raise the bar in energy density, power density, and reliability. Power electronics in particular has seen a lot of movement.

SiC MOSFETs are being deployed in more and more EV models, and cost reductions raise the feasibility of its use in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), when it was previously only considered to be a good choice for BEVs. Chinese suppliers of SiC MOSFETs have strengthened the supply chain of its domestic OEMs. SiC MOSFETs will remain a key role in global electrification.

Meanwhile, for GaN, the race is still on to deploy high-voltage GaN in electric vehicles. With the first announced deployment of GaN for the onboard charger to be in 2026, we are seeing the first market movements. Automotive GaN…
