ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A group of environmentalists and renewable energy proponents marched from Layette Park to Ameren Headquarters on Saturday to call on the energy provider to discontinue using coal as a fuel source and focus on renewables.
Jenn DeRose, Senior Field Organizer for the Sierra Club Missouri Beyond Coal Campaign said those walking in the event today are also Ameren customers, who pushing for the energy provider to “come clean” regarding its long-term planning.
“By dragging its feet on coal, Ameren continues to make financially risky business decisions that harm the health and safety of our communities and the climate,” DeRose said. “No more slow-walking the buildout of renewable energy.”
In a news release, the Sierra Club said two coal-fueled plants in Missouri are detrimental to health. Those are the facilities in West Alton and Labadie Missouri. The club said both plants will keep operating for…
