Data centers in NY increase electricity demand rapidly

New data center projects in New York are increasing electricity demand amid rising natural gas prices and evolving energy infrastructure.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — We have heard from many of you concerned about higher electric bills.  Some point out that higher natural gas prices for electric power generation is involved with rising costs.

But the state Public Service Commission also requires utilities like National Grid and NYSEG with their ratepayers to pay for more connections to upstate renewable energy sources with enhanced power transmission lines and systems to link up with downstate customers.  

We have done reports on the growing demand for electricity under our state’s climate action law and planning which require eventual total electrification of households and vehicles.
