CHAUMONT, New York (WWNY) – Concerned citizens will gather in Chaumont Monday night to discuss the future of solar energy and its relationship with their village.
It’s something the North Country has had its fair share of: the expansion of solar farms.
For Bill Kleftis, it poses a question.
“How much is too much? There are 505 projects that have…been installed in Jefferson County since the year 2000,” he said.
Kleftis is with Concerned Citizens for Responsible Solar, a local group with members worried about 2 major solar projects planned in Jefferson County. One in the town of Lyme; the other would be built in the towns of Lyme and Brownville.
“Riverside and Bay Breeze, their total capacity is 250 megawatts,” said Kleftis.
He stresses the capacity of the two projects because he says it’s twice that of all other projects in the county combined, pointing out how big these projects are and how they’d be built on 3,500 acres.
