For three decades, wind energy equipment maker Suzlon has helped shape India’s renewable energy landscape, powering one in three turbines nationwide. The Pune-headquartered company’s executive vice chairman Girish R Tanti, who is also chairman, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), in an interview shares insights on the ecosystem in TN where it operates 21 O&M sites. Edited excerpts: Can Tamil Nadu regain its top position in wind energy? Let’s look at this from multiple angles. From the demand side, Tamil Nadu currently has more than 11 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind capacity. Based on the state’s demand projections, Tamil Nadu will need to add 13 to 15GW of new wind power to meet its electricity growth requirements over the next five years.
