Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.68% By Investing.com

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the declined 1.68%.

The best performers of the session on the were NFI Group Inc (TSX:), which rose 11.25% or 1.93 points to trade at 19.08 at the close. Meanwhile, TransAlta Corp (TSX:) added 8.56% or 0.89 points to end at 11.29 and Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:) was up 7.57% or 0.92 points to 13.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:), which fell 13.35% or 1.14 points to trade at 7.40 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:) declined 11.96% or 1.10 points to end at 8.10 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:) was down 11.36% or 0.87 points to 6.79.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 617 to 326 and 98 ended unchanged.

Shares in NFI Group Inc (TSX:) rose to 52-week highs; up 11.25% or 1.93 to 19.08….
