Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the declined 0.68%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:), which rose 10.42% or 4.47 points to trade at 47.38 at the close. First Capital Realty Inc . (TSX:) added 3.48% or 0.50 points to end at 14.87 and BRP Inc (TSX:) was up 2.63% or 2.24 points to 87.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:), which lost 6.59% or 0.33 points to trade at 4.68 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:) declined 6.05% or 1.72 points to end at 26.69 and Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:) shed 5.90% or 0.45 points to 7.18.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 529 to 432 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.71% to 8.94.
