Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the rose 0.05%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:), which rose 9.68% or 0.45 points to trade at 5.10 at the close. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:) added 5.87% or 0.50 points to end at 9.02 and Shopify Inc (TSX:) was up 4.29% or 4.72 points to 114.69 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Finning International Inc . (TSX:), which lost 9.19% or 3.65 points to trade at 36.07 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:) declined 5.26% or 0.17 points to end at 3.06 and Africa Oil Corp (TSX:) shed 4.08% or 0.10 points to 2.35.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 505 to 433 and 124 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
