The initiative, named Restore, will provide a total of 1.2 billion levs ($657.4 million/613.5 million euro) for the construction and commissioning of a national infrastructure of renewable energy storage facilities with a minimum capacity of 3,000 MWh of usable energy, the energy ministry said in a press release.
The grants will cover up to 50% of eligible costs, with a cap of 371,600 levs per MWh of usable energy capacity.
The project, funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), aims to significantly increase the share of clean energy in Bulgaria’s energy mix while developing the necessary storage infrastructure.
“The construction of storage facilities is key to the efficient balancing and management of the power system. The successful implementation of this procedure will guarantee the security and stability of the power system,” energy minister Vladimir Malinov said.
