Brazil climbed one rung to fifth place in the ranking of total installed onshore wind energy capacity in 2024, according to a report issued by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) on Wednesday.
The South American country surpassed Spain, which had 33.7GW, but remains behind China (479GW), the US (154GW), Germany (63.7GW) and India (48.2GW).
Considering solely new installations, the country also ranked fifth last year, with 3.27GW in added capacity, falling two positions from 2023, just behind India (3.40GW) and Germany (3.29GW).
Installed power in Brazil last year was around 34.5% lower than in 2023 (5GW). According to Abeeólica, which represents the sector, it was already expected that new installations would slow in 2024 due to curtailments, cancellation of auctions and other regulatory obstacles.
The association said through its press office that it expected Brazil’s first battery auction to be held in 2024….
