An Air China flight from Hangzhou to Seoul diverted to Shanghai Pudong International Airport on October 18, 2025, following a mid-air incident caused by a lithium battery fire in an overhead bin. The flight, numbered CA139, was flying at approximately thirty-three thousand feet when smoke and flames erupted from a passenger’s carry-on bag. Thanks to the rapid response of the cabin crew, the fire was extinguished in minutes, and all one hundred seventy passengers and crew members landed safely.
