Frankfurt Stock Exchange opening: DAX weakens after rally – focus on flood of figures

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – After a late rally in the middle of the week, the DAX started Thursday with moderate losses. In the first few minutes of trading, the leading German index fell by 0.20 percent to 24,002 points. This continued the stalemate of recent weeks and months at the 24,000-point mark. The MDAX index of medium-sized companies fell by 0.09 percent to 29,348 points. The Eurozone’s leading index, the EuroStoxx 50, lost 0.3 percent.

The focus remains on the quarterly reporting season for companies, which has so far failed to give the overall market any decisive momentum, with a veritable flood of figures. “The DAX remains in a sideways trend,” said analyst Martin Utschneider of broker Robomarkets. In the short term, however, the risks outweighed the opportunities.
