Crossover Wind, a 135-megawatt wind farm near Wynne, is now online. The farm’s 33 Vestas 4.5MG turbines, designed to produce enough electricity to power 50,000 houses, have been operating since June.
The project was developed by Cordelio Power, an independent power producer of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar farms.
A spokesperson for Cordelio Power did not give an exact lifespan of the project, but said in an email that “wind turbines are expected to last approximately 30 to 35 years.”
Cordelio Power will pay about $52 million to landowners over the life of the project, approximately $489,000 in taxes annually and an annual payment of $454,000 to Cross County to use at its discretion.
The spokesperson said the farm has been running smoothly.
