Nifty, Sensex down for eight straight sessions, Nifty Bank outperforms

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian markets closed largely in the red, extending losses for the eighth straight session, as the Sensex fell 97 points to 80,268 and the Nifty slipped 24 points to 24,611. Despite the broader weakness, the Nifty Bank index outperformed, rising 175 points to 54,636, led by gains in Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank, each up around 3%.
