Unplanned Power Plant Disconnection Prompts BGE Warning for Possible Widespread Outages

Baltimore Gas and Electric is asking all customers to conserve electricity this afternoon and evening after a power plant experienced an “unplanned disconnection” from the BGE electric system. The utility says it is coordinating with the plant’s owner on repairs, while regional grid operator PJM Interconnection evaluates available power across the Mid-Atlantic.

BGE Alert:


BGE is asking all customers to conserve electricity to reduce the potential for widespread outages this afternoon and evening as the result of a power plant experiencing an unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system.

In addition to conserving electricity beginning immediately and through this evening, we also recommend customers prepare for a potential outage. If an outage is necessary we will make every effort to alert customers in advance.
