Holyoke mayor named award finalist by renewable energy group

HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The Northeast Renewable Energy Coalition (NREC) toured Holyoke on Friday with Mayor Joshua Garcia, who is a current finalist for the group’s Mayor of the Year Award.

The Paper City has lately become a leader in hydro and renewable energy, which includes Holyoke Gas and Electric upgrading local infrastructure and installing one of Massachusetts’ largest utility batteries to handle peak demand. The NREC also visited the Holyoke Dam and Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center to see how an industrial city has taken new steps towards cleaner energy.
