Clear skies help solar power generation scale new high | Chennai News

Chennai: Solar power generation in Tamil Nadu touched a new peak of 6,729 MW on Saturday. Grid absorption also hit an all-time high of 48.5 million units (Mu), covering nearly 60% of Chennai’s power demand.Previously, 48.3Mu and 6,529MW were the record absorption and peak generation, registered on Feb 11 and 16, respectively, this year. TNPDCL officials said solar output had remained low for months despite the summer, but clear skies and high temperatures after the rains helped boost generation. Additional installed capacity also contributed to the new peak. Tamil Nadu has 10,159.61MW of installed solar capacity, including 1,003.34 MW from rooftop systems. TNGECL managing director Aneesh Sekhar said the additional installed capacity is another reason for new peaks in solar power generation.
