S&P/TSX composite up more than 100 points, U.S. stock markets also higher

TORONTO — Strength in the technology stocks helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 100 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also rose higher. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 118.55 points at 26,988.21.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 324.50 points at 44,808.92. The S&P 500 index was up 49.68 points at 6,277.10, while the Nasdaq composite was up 202.45 points at 20,595.58.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.66 cents US compared with 73.41 cents US on Wednesday.

The August crude oil contract was down 66 cents US at US$66.79 per barrel.

The August gold contract was down US$25.50 at US$3,334.20 an ounce.
