Anoka County man lost $2.4 million after clicking on link on his phone

Brooklyn Park police say they saw 25 similar cases last year alone.

ANOKA COUNTY, Minn. — Imagine losing $2.4 million in a matter of minutes and not being able to do anything about it. Recently released court records show that’s exactly what happened to an Anoka County man last fall.

The search warrant filed through Hennepin County shows the man clicked on a link he received through his email account that claimed to be sent by Coinbase, a popular cryptocurrency exchange.

Records show the man immediately realized he made a mistake and that the email was not sent by Coinbase. The man checked his cryptocurrency account and noticed his money was being drained from his account.
