Elon Musk Steps Back from DOGE to Focus on Tesla (TSLA) after $160B in Savings

Elon Musk announced that he will significantly reduce his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the federal initiative he led to cut government spending. Starting in May, Musk plans to spend only a day or two per week on DOGE and focus more on Tesla (TSLA). Under Musk’s leadership, DOGE claimed to have saved $160 billion by cutting wasteful spending and reducing the federal workforce. However, this figure falls far short of his original goal of saving $2 trillion.

In a recent White House meeting, Musk thanked President Trump and his Cabinet, saying, “It was an honor to work with you.” Despite the reported savings, critics argue that DOGE’s aggressive cost-cutting led to significant unintended costs. Some estimates suggest that it may have actually cost taxpayers around $135 billion, due to factors like rehiring, lost productivity, and legal challenges.
