The percentage of float short for Air Canada (AC-T) jumped to 30.8 per cent, up from 23.3 per cent in March. The airliner’s stock has nearly halved since December and is now trading below the lows of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canadians are booking fewer flights to the U.S. because of U.S. president Donald Trump’s policies on tariffs and immigration. The Official Airline Guide (OAG) reported in late March that bookings on Canada–U.S. routes were down by 70 per cent on a year-over-year basis. The bearish sentiment on Air Canada may also reflect warnings by U.S. airlines of weaker demand in quarters ahead.
