Is stairway project another boondoggle?
Regarding “La Jollans want answers on crumbling Camino de la Costa stairs” (April 10, La Jolla Light):
The Camino de la Costa stairs are quite dangerous. Against my better judgment I have used them several times recently. If the city of San Diego has a total of $2,325,000 for this work, I would expect it is sufficient for the plans and construction of new stairs.
The Light stated that $325,000 is just for a feasibility study. That is a pretty expensive study. That should be enough for all design and construction documents (I am in the large-scale development business and know costs). The remaining $2 million should cover the construction. This is not a long run of stairs.
I fear this will be another enormously expensive boondoggle, with earmarked funds squandered elsewhere. Sorry, city, but we see this so often it is hard not to be jaded. Please prove me wrong.
