State of UK economy shouldn’t distract from opportunities in equities

The economic outlook may be bleak, both globally and domestically, but the stock market opportunity remains strong in the UK, according to guests on the latest FT Adviser podcast.

Ian Rees, head of multi-manager at Premier Miton, who has an overweight position to UK equities, said: “The macroeconomic news has been dominating, but economies are not reflective of the opportunities in stock markets.” 

Adrian Gosden, UK equity income fund manager at Jupiter, said while he tends to avoid exposure to any particular theme or trend, at present, he is “drawn to” the mid and small cap part of the UK market.

“There are opportunities in the FTSE 100 as well of course, but it is the mid and small caps that seem to offer the best upside right now,” he said.
