Portland Water Bureau targets zero-emissions goal with newest project

The Portland Water Bureau is looking micro hydropower for its electricity at the Washington Park Reservoir in Southwest Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. — When it comes to sustainability, Portland leaders are often looking ahead, and the city’s water system is no exception. The Portland Water Bureau is thinking of the future, and its goal over the next 25 years is to get emissions down to net zero. 

It’s a plan they are already starting.

There’s been a lot happening at the Washington Park reservoir in Southwest Portland over the last several years. Construction has been going on for the last seven years, and that’s been for the seismic-reinforced reservoir. Now, the next phase is all about alternative energy.
