Solar farm approved in Newton Twp. – Scranton Times-Tribune

Newton Twp. officials agreed to allow a solar farm developer to build a little more than 23,000 panels in the township.

The township’s zoning hearing board granted conditional use to SR1 Captura Sage Holdco I LLC, Penn Renewables LLC, Lackawanna Airport I, II, III, IV and V, all of San Francisco, last month to build approximately 23,600 panels on about 94 acres of a 120-acre parcel on Airport Drive, Neal Thatcher, attorney for the developers, said. The project also includes an access road, screening buffering, landscaping and setbacks.

The developers will lease the land from Marco Richione III of South Abington Twp.

Thatcher said the developers provided detailed testimony, including from experts, as well as written information and reports showing the proposed farm complies with the township’s ordinance on solar panels.
