Ceramics UK, the trade association for the U.K. ceramics industry, announced a landmark achievement in its ‘Demonstrating Hydrogen in the Ceramics Sector’ project. The project’s custom-built pilot kiln, designed to explore the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for ceramic production, has been successfully commissioned and is now operating on 100% hydrogen operation. Trials firing member-produced ceramic products with hydrogen have officially commenced.
This achievement marks a historic moment for the U.K. ceramics industry. For the first time, a pilot kiln of this scale has successfully operated entirely on hydrogen fuel. Phase 2 of the project builds on the groundbreaking success of Phase 1, which pioneered the first-ever demonstration of firing diverse ceramic products using 100% hydrogen without compromising quality.
